Mobility vs Ubiquity

For last few weeks, I'v been reading about mobile phones (Feature and Smart), PDAs,iPads,Slates and future handheld devices. In search of a common name for all such devices, I came across few acronyms and initialisms. One which I really found helpful in understanding the purpose of these devices is "CIDs" i.e Communication and Information Devices.

These devices share two common features, mobility and ubiquity. Mobility means being able to move freely while staying connected, Ubiquity, on the other hand, means universal connectivity, i.e. the ability to count on the presence of a connection of one kind or another from the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the top of Mount McKinley and everywhere in between.

From Information Technology perspective, these devices are like little windows which provide opportunity to interact with vast information available on internet and can be seen as new fast growing new entrants in distributed and cloud computing arena.
